Forks Table: October 2023

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:29-32

  1. Can you share a time when someone encouraged you with their words? What about a time when you were discouraged by someone’s words?
  2. Paul said, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths.” What is unwholesome talk? Do you think before you speak? What are some ways that you can encourage others?
  3. What does it mean “and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God?” Do you struggle with “bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander?” Share. How can we trash or get rid of these old ways?
  4. What are some ways that you can take on the attitude of Christ? Is it easy or difficult to be kind and compassionate to people? Do you struggle with forgiving people when they have hurt you or wronged you? Share. Why should we forgive?
